Over 2’s (Bears & Elephants)
Our downstairs area follows a daily routine that encompasses a balance between adult initiated group times and child-initiated play. Our children’s interests are at the core of every planned activity. The downstairs area is setup to promote independence, children are encouraged to explore and interact, express their needs and ideas and ask questions based around their interests and the environment.

The core focus:
- Promoting a love of outdoors in all weathers
- Child-led transition from our baby facility to our over 2’s area
- Promoting independence, especially around care routines e.g. self-feeding and developing dressing/toileting skills
- Adult led group times build on social, communication and interaction skills. Emphasis is placed on language development and basic social skills
- Daily physical activities including Zumba and conversations during mealtimes build an understanding of the ‘healthy self’
- Understanding rules and boundaries as children free flow through our downstairs area following their own personal interests
An in-depth and detailed 2 -year assessment is carried out for each child. The assessment takes practitioners and parents views into consideration and is used to track the development of the child which is then reviewed by our local community nursery nurse at the health center for the statutory 2-year check.
